If you’re concerned about any spinach you have at home, forego the spinach salad. COOKING kills e. coli. Sauteed spinach in garlic and olive oil (maybe some crumbled bacon for added flavor) is a wonderful dish. Spinach can also be added to chicken broth for a hearty chicken soup or to tomato soup for a tomato florentine. Saute it before using it in an omelet however–tossing it into the eggs as they cook just won’t kill the e. coli. Cream of spinach soup is wonderful if you’re not on a diet. Creamed spinach over poached salmon is to die for.

Yeah, Popeye got me to eat me spinach when I was a kid. If you can get ahold of them, the original Segar comic strips are wonderfully surreal, as are the early Fleischer cartoons. A true American classic.
